Prepare for ‘Dunesday’: ‘Avengers’ and ‘Dune 3’ Presales Have Already Set the Stage for a Historic Holiday Box Office

As the holiday season approaches, the box office is set to be dominated by the highly anticipated releases "Avengers: Doomsday" from Marvel Studios and "Dune: Part Three" from Warner Bros./Legendary. Disney has already opened advance ticket sales for "Avengers: Doomsday" four months before its release, nearly a month earlier than the previous record held by "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" in 2023.

The early presales show that "Avengers: Doomsday" is already 65% ahead of its initial two-day presale pace, indicating a strong fan interest in the Marvel superhero movie. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans' return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has further fueled the hype, making fans eager to see the characters they've grown to love on the big screen again.

While no major blockbuster has started advance ticket sales this early, the year-long buildup leading up to this release, starting with a teaser announcement last December, has paid off immensely. Both "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Dune: Part Three" are expected to gross more than $2 billion worldwide, potentially breaking box office records.

Meanwhile, "Dune: Part Three" may also enjoy success, even amidst the shadow of "Avengers: Doomsday," as it is set to be shown in IMAX 70mm format in select theaters. The film's wide presales have already begun for 38 theaters, with early screenings of the IMAX version drawing sellouts. If the film receives strong critical and audience reception, it could become the highest-grossing installment in the trilogy, surpassing the $714 million global total of "Dune: Part Two."
