Police identify leads in Simpang Ampat shooting

NIBONG TEBAL: The police have identified leads in the shooting of a 38-year-old man in Simpang Ampat last month, with several individuals detained to assist in the investigation. Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim stated that the motive and evidence remain unknown, urging the public to allow police sufficient time to complete their probe.

The victim, who has a prior criminal record, was injured outside a row of shophouses in Jalan Perniagaan Seri Tambun on July 27, around 10 am. He had reportedly finished exercising at a nearby gym before stopping at a convenience store to buy eggs. Several people have been brought in to aid the investigation, but they have not been arrested.

Lim declined to disclose further details due to the sensitivity of the ongoing probe and also refrained from commenting on the possible motive, stating that insufficient concrete evidence had been identified. He assured that the police would provide updates once developments occurred in the investigation. The matter remains confidential, and Lim spoke to reporters after attending a charity ride event organized by the police in collaboration with the Ipoh Superbike Club, coinciding with the 219th Police Day and 69th Merdeka Eve celebrations.
