Raigad: The Raigad municipal administration has resolved a controversy surrounding a modern-art depiction of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj that had been installed at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Chowk on Chinchapada Ring Road. The artwork, which sparked strong objections from Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj devotees, has been removed after complaints were raised about its inappropriate form and presentation.
The issue gained public attention after a video of the installation was shared on social media by Pen resident Vaibhavi Mhatre. In response to the growing controversy, the civic administration first covered the installation and later removed it from the square. Pen municipal council president Pritam Patil publicly apologized and assured that the civic body would install a respectful and dignified statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj at the square.
The removal of the contentious artwork has ended the immediate dispute, with the proposed new statue installation anticipated to follow.
