Osun election buries ‘votes don’t count’ narrative — IPAC

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Lagos has declared the Osun governorship election results as a significant victory for Nigeria's democratic system. IPAC Chairman, Mrs. Temilola Akinade, expressed her satisfaction with the peaceful and free nature of the election, emphasizing that it reflects the true voice of the electorate.

Akinade further clarified that the belief that "votes don't count" in Nigeria has been thoroughly debunked by the Osun election outcome. She firmly stated that the results have nullified this narrative and reasserted the right of the people to hold power, which can only be taken away through active participation in the electoral process.

Akinade acknowledged that elections can be vulnerable to manipulation when voter turnout is low and apathy prevails. She urged citizens to remain vigilant and engage in the voting process, particularly in preparation for the 2027 general elections. While IPAC expressed concern over the reported incidents of violence and killings that occurred during the election campaign, they reaffirmed their commitment to supporting a robust democratic system in Nigeria.
