Notre Dame’s CJ Carr and Leonard Moore put on Maxwell Award Watch List

Notre Dame has two players, quarterback CJ Carr and cornerback Leonard Moore, on the Maxwell Award watch list. Moore, while unlikely to win the Thorpe Award, could still win the Maxwell. Carr, Moore were also selected for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List, the oldest individual college football accolade. This prestigious group includes 41 offensive players and nine defensive players.

The 50-player watch list places Notre Dame among just five schools to have both an offensive and defensive player on the list. Four Notre Dame players have won the Walter Camp Player of the Year award: TE Ken MacAfee (1977), FL Tim Brown (1987), FL Raghib Ismail (1990), and LB Manti Te'o (2012). Carr started all 12 games last year, throwing 2,741 yards and 24 touchdowns, which tied for the most passing touchdowns in a player's first 12 career starts at Notre Dame since 1966.

Moore, who started 10 games, led the team with five interceptions, the seventh-most in the country, along with 31.0 total tackles, a forced fumble, and seven pass breakups. He earned a 91.8 PFF grade and coverage grade, both leading the nation.
