Nakhon Si Thammarat electricity worker fights for life after being stabbed on duty

A Thai electricity worker is fighting for his life after being stabbed while on duty in Nakhon Si Thammarat. The incident occurred on August 14 outside a residential area in Tha Ruea subdistrict, Mueang district. The 32-year-old victim, identified as Chawanit, was reportedly an official from the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA).

CCTV footage captured the aftermath, with Chawanit riding his motorcycle away with one hand pressed to the wound, flagging down passersby for assistance. Emergency services took him to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition with punctured lungs. The attacker, identified as 32-year-old Phu, fled the scene and is currently at large.

Chawanit's girlfriend, Thanyaret, stated that on the morning of the incident, her boyfriend had visited Phu's home to disconnect an electric meter due to unpaid bills. A child living in the house asked Chawanit to give the parents more time to pay, and he agreed, setting a deadline of the following afternoon. However, when Chawanit returned at around 5 pm, he discovered that the bill was still unpaid.

Phu arrived on his motorcycle, claiming to be the owner of the house, and confronted Chawanit about cutting off the power. In a sudden turn of events, Phu stabbed Chawanit in the back.

The 52-year-old owner of the house, Apichat, confirmed to Amarin TV that Phu was his stepson. He claimed that Phu had not returned home for several days prior to the incident and that he has a short temper and habitually carries a knife. Apichat mentioned that Phu had been involved in a stabbing dispute two or three months ago and was still fighting that case in court.

Local police are now gathering evidence and searching for Phu.
