Mumbai Brain-Dead 18-Year-Old’s Family Donates Organs, Gives New Lease Of Life To Multiple Patients

In a heartbreaking turn of events in Mumbai, the family of 18-year-old Meher, a Mechatronics Engineering student, has chosen to donate his organs following his tragic brain death. The young man had been battling kidney disease and continued his education while undergoing treatment. Tragically, he was declared brain dead on August 16, following a severe brain hemorrhage at Fortis Hospital, Mulund.

Meher's organs, including his liver and small intestine, will be used for transplantation, providing new hope to several patients in dire need. His corneas and skin will also be donated for tissue transplantation, further extending the life-saving impact of his generous decision. The organ allocation was executed in accordance with the state's established guidelines.

The family's initial dreams for their son's future were dashed when his condition took a sudden turn for the worse. Despite medical intervention, Meher's health continued to deteriorate, leading to his unfortunate demise. His father, Kolleppara Chandrashekhar, made the difficult decision to authorize organ donation, expressing his heartfelt sentiment that, though he could not save his son, his organs would give others the opportunity to live.

This poignant story marks Mumbai's 41st deceased organ donation of 2026, highlighting the compassionate actions of individuals who make selfless choices to save lives even after their own tragically ends.
