Masdar windfarm clears major milestone to power 1.3 million UK homes

Dubai: Masdar and ScottishPower Renewables have successfully installed all 95 foundations for the £4 billion East Anglia THREE offshore windfarm, advancing the 1.4GW project towards powering more than 1.3 million UK homes. The all-monopile installation was achieved by Seaway7 using the Seaway Ventus vessel, marking a significant engineering feat.

The 95 transition pieces, each 20 metres tall, eight metres in diameter and weighing over 400 tonnes, have also been installed. Meanwhile, turbine installation is already at the halfway mark, with 95 turbines featuring 115-metre blades. The foundation installation involved anchoring more than 200,000 tonnes of steel into a seabed area the size of almost 43,000 football pitches.

The project, Masdar's first 50:50 offshore wind joint venture in the UK, will create around 100 long-term jobs in the East of England. Once operational by the end of 2026, East Anglia THREE will generate clean power for more than 1.3 million UK homes.
