Judge rules Caprice defamed Ebit, orders apology and RM200,000 compensation

On August 17, the Shah Alam Sessions Court ruled that social media personality Caprice must pay RM200,000 in damages to preacher Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew for defamation. Judge Zuhrina Nor found that Caprice had made seven statements about Ebit in 2023 via a video featuring Indonesian influencer Mondy Tattoo. The court ordered Caprice to issue an apology and retract the statements within 48 hours, along with a RM20,000 cost order against him.

The case arose from a September 2023 video clip where Ebit claimed Caprice's seven statements implied he sexually abused the Indonesian and exploited religion, tarnishing his reputation. Ebit argued Caprice acted maliciously by publishing the video without verifying its contents, leading to negative online comments. Ebit was represented by Akberdin Abdul Kader, while Caprice was represented by Rezan Ezra Mosinal.
