Interior PS Raymond Omollo reassures there will be peace during political rallies

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has assured Kenyans and political leaders that they will be able to freely campaign throughout the country, as long as they adhere to the law. During a press conference, Omollo stated that the government has no intention of restricting politicians from visiting various parts of the country to present their policies and interact with voters prior to the 2027 general election.

Omollo emphasized that all political entities have the right to campaign in any location within Kenya. "I think everybody, regardless of the political formation, has the right to go to any part, any corner of the country, and canvass their issues," he said. His remarks come amid growing political tensions and worries about disturbances and violence at certain political gatherings, including the reported incidents during the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay.

The PS, who oversees internal security, expressed confidence in Kenyans' ability to evaluate politicians and make informed decisions based on their actions and words. "The public are also smart enough to read between what the political players say and do," Omollo noted.

While acknowledging the freedom to campaign, Omollo stressed that this right comes with the responsibility of maintaining peace and abiding by the law. "As a PS in charge of Internal Security, the position is very clear: everybody is free to go anywhere, but it is an expectation that we must observe law and order," he added.

The Interior Ministry's assurance aims to reassure political leaders and their supporters that security forces will permit political activities to proceed while preserving public order. The comments come as political parties intensify their mobilization of supporters across different regions in preparation for the 2027 General Election.

The assurance also addresses opposition leaders' intensified campaigns and government-aligned politicians' efforts to defend their records and gain support ahead of the upcoming election. With political temperatures anticipated to escalate in the lead-up to 2027, the Interior Ministry maintains that Kenya's political landscape remains open, but peace and law and order must be upheld during rallies and other political events.
