Inside JB’s RTS Link station: 25-minute target from concourse to train, high-tech scanners planned

Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link passengers can complete travel from entering Bukit Chagar station to boarding their train in a projected 25 minutes, according to Malaysian authorities. The state-of-the-art station in Johor Bahru, set to open in January 2027, boasts spacious air-conditioned concourses, advanced security systems, and amenities such as large toilets and child nurseries.

During a behind-the-scenes tour, Malaysia’s Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) and RTS Operations (RTSO) showcased the station's features, including 18 luggage scanners and nine body scanners employing ultra-low-power millimetre-wave technology and artificial intelligence to detect concealed objects within seconds. Security officers will be alerted to suspicious items instantly.

After passing through Malaysian and Singaporean immigration gates, passengers will reach the train platform in the final level of the station. The station's 4km link to nearby malls, including KOMTAR JBCC and Johor Bahru City Square, will also be operational by January 2027, accommodating up to 10,000 passengers at once.
