Indonesia's NTT Earthquake Death Toll Reaches 53

The magnitude 7.7 earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, has resulted in a death toll of 53, according to the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). The victims were spread across six regions, with the highest number of fatalities in Manggarai Regency at 25, followed by East Manggarai with 20. Other affected regions include Sikka with 4, and Nagekeo and West Manggarai each reporting 1 death.

Ende recorded 2 deaths. The earthquake also caused 137 injuries, with the injured receiving treatment at nearby emergency health facilities. As of now, 5,488 people are staying in centralized evacuation shelters, while 171 have evacuated independently. The quake caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure, with 1,543 houses sustaining heavy damage, 328 houses experiencing moderate damage, and 532 buildings enduring light damage.

Additionally, 87 educational facilities, 50 places of worship, 76 government offices, and various public facilities were affected by the disaster. In the following days, 995 aftershocks were recorded in NTT, 46 of which were felt by the public. The government is actively providing aid to displaced residents through air and land routes, with thousands of logistics packages delivered to affected areas.
