Mahesh Manjrekar, a celebrated figure in the Marathi film industry, is set to celebrate his 68th birthday on August 16, 2026. Born in a family with a strong cinematic legacy, Manjrekar has not only carved a niche for himself as an accomplished actor but has also ventured into directing, screenwriting, and production.
His journey in the industry was marked by numerous challenges. After the initial success of Vaastav, Manjrekar found himself on the brink of giving up due to the recurrent obstacles he encountered. However, his determination kept him going. In 2000, Manjrekar was diagnosed with bladder cancer, a health issue he chose to keep private from the public.
Despite the ordeal, he continued to work on various projects, even during his treatment, often concealing his pain from his colleagues. Post-recovery, Manjrekar has been an ardent advocate of regular health check-ups, urging others to not overlook their symptoms.
Manjrekar's directorial career has been eventful, with notable films like Vaastav: The Reality (1999), Astitva (2000), Kurukshetra (2000), and Viruddh... Family Comes First (2005) to his credit. While he is widely recognized for his acting prowess, Manjrekar's directorial vision has been equally impactful. In addition to his professional pursuits, Manjrekar has also dabbled in electoral politics, contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Mumbai North-West as a candidate from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).
Interestingly, the Manjrekar family continues to thrive in the entertainment industry. His daughter, Saiee Manjrekar, has followed in her father's footsteps and entered the world of acting. She made her Hindi film debut in Dabangg 3 (2019), opposite the renowned actor Salman Khan.
