Group rejects Central Tema NPP Executive election results

Stakeholders from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Tema constituency have disputed the outcomes of the party's executive elections held on Saturday. They contend that the elections took place despite unresolved legal and internal party conflicts. One of the key issues is a court challenge to the validity of the election register.

Following the expiry of the initial injunction period, the party's stakeholders, spearheaded by Prince Anim Nuamah, served a Notice of Motion for Interlocutory Injunction against relevant parties, including the General Secretary and Chairman of the Regional Elections Committee. The hearing was initially set for August 26, 2026, but was accelerated and held on August 11, 2026, before being postponed to August 19, 2026.

The stakeholders have been waiting for the court's decision while expressing deep concern over the timing and manner of the election. A WhatsApp announcement was sent out at 5:00 p.m. on August 11, 2026, requesting participation, but the group did not receive any official confirmation or clarification from the relevant authorities.

This lack of communication made it difficult for them to adequately prepare and engage in the electoral process. The group emphasizes that their decision not to participate does not signify endorsement of the process or acceptance of the results. They reject the notion that the outcome reflects the will of the entire constituency, as one side of the dispute was unable to partake due to the lack of satisfactory official communication.

Prince Anim Nuamah urges the party hierarchy to reject and set aside the purported election results until the unresolved legal and internal party matters are addressed. The group calls for the three-member committee appointed by the National Elections Committee to finalize its mandate and convey its findings before any subsequent elections can be held, which should only occur once these issues are resolved.
