Google hires former Gmail lead to be Chrome’s new VP of Product

Google has appointed Jacob Bank as the new Vice President of Product for Chrome, a strategic move to bolster the browser's capabilities and enhance user experience. Bank's appointment comes after six years of dedicated service at Google, where he previously held significant roles in product management. His expertise lies in AI-driven features that have significantly improved productivity tools such as Gmail, Calendar, and Chat.

Bank's tenure at Google began in 2015 when he led the development of Timeful, a smart calendar assistant that was later integrated into Google Calendar and Gmail. Under his guidance, these platforms saw major enhancements like Smart Reply, Smart Compose, and Nudging. The introduction of AI technology also bolstered Gmail's anti-malware and anti-phishing protections, showcasing Bank's ability to leverage advanced technology for user benefit.

His leadership roles expanded to include Director of Product Management for Gmail, Calendar, and Chat, highlighting his pivotal role in shaping Google's productivity suite. Despite founding Relay.app in 2021, which unfortunately ceased operations in August, Bank's contributions to Google's ecosystem remain impactful. Several employees from Relay.app are set to join the Chrome team under his leadership.
