Fortnite Goes 32-Bit to Reveal New Gaming Legend Season With Legally Distinct Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat Parodies, Plus Actual Sonic the Hedgehog

Fortnite has unveiled its roster of characters for the upcoming Overdrive season, themed around iconic video games. Players can anticipate collaborations with franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, Mushroom Kingdom, Persona, Tetris, Pac-Man, Mega Man, and 99 Nights in the Forest. However, the character reveal today showcased original creations, including a Link-like figure named Bastion, a Mario Kart racer called K1TTYW1NS, a Minecraft-inspired character called Wrixel, and a Lara Croft lookalike named Grace Crowne.

Additionally, the battle pass will feature Mortal Kombat-inspired fighter Mali and a Call of Duty-style soldier named Phantom. The lineup will also include a Sega-endorsed Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as a new skin for Fortnite's main antagonist, Geno. It's important to note that the Sonic character in Fortnite is an android version, not the actual video game character.

This change was revealed in a comic confirming that Geno is controlling Dr. Robotnik and that the Sonic character and its crew are humanoid androids with the bio-data of the original Sonic and crew. Fortnite: Overdrive, featuring these new characters, will launch later in the week on August 20.
