eThekwini warns of 24-hour water interruption after main bursts, here are affected areas

The eThekwini Municipality has issued a warning to residents about a potential 24-hour interruption to the water supply due to a burst on a 750mm-diameter steel Wiggins High Pressure Supply Main near Wright Place. The municipality announced this in a media statement on Sunday, explaining that repairs are expected to take at least 24 hours.

To complete the emergency repairs, isolation of the affected section is necessary, and repair teams are currently on site, performing excavation and other necessary tasks. The municipality is closely monitoring reservoir levels and demand trends. Depending on the available storage, some outlets might need to be temporarily shut to preserve water and aid in system recovery once the repairs are finished.

This could mean that certain areas will only receive water during peak-demand periods while the system is being managed. After the repairs are completed, it is anticipated that reservoir recovery will take about a week, depending on demand and system conditions. To assist those affected during the interruption, water tankers will be dispatched.
