Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa has praised Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey, stating that the Super Eagles star is an ideal fit for his playing style and could emerge as a team leader. Arbeloa made the comments following Bassey's impressive performance in Fulham's 1-0 win over Stuttgart in the Premier League's final pre-season fixture at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

The Nigerian international displayed a strong defensive effort, contributing to the team's clean sheet during the match. In his post-match interview, Arbeloa commended Bassey's attributes and elaborated on why the defender aligns perfectly with his tactical framework. "Calvin is a proper and top player for my style of game because we need to defend so high and leave a lot of space behind. He has everything," he told Fulham media.

Arbeloa also highlighted Bassey's positive attitude and dedication, suggesting that the Nigerian could take on a leadership role within the team. "He is a humorous individual, but when it's time to work, he is always the first to step up. I have great admiration for Calvin, and he has the potential to be our leader," he concluded.

Since joining Fulham in the summer of 2023, Bassey has become a key player for the club, regaining his top form in the Premier League. The former Leicester City defender has scored four goals and provided one assist in 101 appearances across all competitions.
