Egypt warns citizens against fake Oman job offers using tourist visas

Egypt's embassy in Muscat has issued a warning to its citizens against falling prey to fraudulent job offers in Oman. These scams involve individuals and tourism companies claiming to arrange employment for foreigners by granting them tourist visas, with the promise of payment. The embassy reported that numerous Egyptian nationals have been duped by such fraudsters who either promised job opportunities or assured that employment would be secured upon arrival in Oman.

In a statement to the Egyptian community, the embassy emphasized recent directives from Omani authorities that have eliminated the possibility of converting tourist visas into employment visas. Anyone who obtains a legitimate job must depart Oman and re-enter the country using an appropriate work visa issued based on a legal employment contract.

The embassy cautioned visitors that overstaying their tourist visas could result in daily fines, with total penalties potentially amounting to RO500. They urged Egyptians traveling to Oman to be vigilant, verify any job offers before paying money or traveling, and avoid fraudulent recruitment schemes. The embassy also reminded travelers to adhere to entry requirements, such as possessing a confirmed return ticket, hotel reservations, and sufficient funds to cover their expenses during their stay until their scheduled departure date.

The warning was intended to safeguard the safety and interests of Egyptian citizens traveling to or residing in Oman.
