Donya defends Ruto as she courts Bonchari voters with empowerment drive

In a spirited defense of President William Ruto, Bonchari parliamentary aspirant Donya Toto urged residents to back his administration as she ramped up her grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election. On Monday, during an empowerment forum in Bonchari, Donya addressed women leaders, political figures, and residents, emphasizing the importance of connecting people to government opportunities.

The forum, which also included Kitutu Chache North MP Japhet Nyakundi and State House operative Farouk Kibet, aimed to rally residents behind President Ruto and support his bid for a second term. Kibet argued that President Ruto should be given another term to finish and consolidate his administration's programmes, urging residents to evaluate the government based on its development and empowerment initiatives.

Donya highlighted the government's efforts to provide opportunities for ordinary Kenyans through various empowerment programmes and cited the construction of the Mau Summit-Rironi highway as a major infrastructure project akin to the Thika Superhighway built during the Mwai Kibaki administration. She dismissed allegations about the President's lack of action, calling those who made such claims "ashamed of themselves."

Donya emphasized the need for leaders who could connect residents to opportunities and ensure Bonchari's development, while engaging women representatives to discuss issues affecting women, young people, and vulnerable groups. The empowerment forum provided Donya with a chance to bolster her support base and position herself as a candidate capable of combining local development priorities with national government backing.

As political activity intensifies in the run-up to the 2027 elections, candidates are likely to rely on grassroots mobilisation, empowerment initiatives, and alliances with influential political figures to win over voters.
