Distributed generation not replacement for large-scale energy production, but its reliable backup – Director of RSE Group Ukraine

Distributed generation, while not a replacement for large-scale energy production, serves as a reliable backup that can maintain power supply to communities and enterprises during central grid failures, according to Hanna Pozdniakova, Director of RSE Group Ukraine. She emphasized that distributed generation should not be pitted against nuclear power, transmission grids, or large power plants.

Instead, it works differently by distributing risk across numerous smaller power nodes, thus reducing the impact of local source failures. This distribution of risk is why Pozdniakova considers distributed generation a reliable backup for the Ukrainian energy system. While it does not guarantee the absence of power outages next winter, it can significantly reduce the impact of potential attacks by localizing failures, maintaining the operation of critical facilities, and providing the energy system with time to recover.

Summer peaks have already demonstrated the benefits of additional flexibility.
