Delhi Badminton World Championships gets its first mad-shot reel moment

At the Delhi Badminton World Championships, Canadian women's doubles shuttler Johnna Rymes made headlines with a remarkable behind-the-back wrist flick in her opening match. Though the 24-hour-old match showcased the skill of the 19-year-old, it's a technique that remains rare and requires exceptional reflexes and wrist strength.

Rymes and her partner Eyota Kwan, both from Canadian clubs following in their brothers' footsteps, were defeated 21-15, 10-21, 21-6 by Vietnamese duo Thi Dieu Ly Tham and Pham Thi Khahn in the first round.

However, Rymes' behind-the-back flick caught the crowd's attention during her fourth match on Court 4. She described it as an unexpected stroke, a result of "due luck" or "shank it back" shot. Rymes, who hails from Devon, an oil exploration town, and Kwan from Edmonton, both credited the growing popularity of badminton, especially after the success of Indian player Victor Lai, for the increased occurrence of such daring moves.
