DAP desak lulus RUU asing peranan AG-pendakwa raya sebelum hujung tahun

After the DAP decided to remain in the federal government, its deputy leader Gobind Singh Deo urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to expedite the reform of key institutions and ensure it is passed before the end of the year. Deo said the congress's decision clearly sends a mandate for the party to continue in government, accompanied by concrete action to implement the reform agenda and institutional restructuring.

He wants the government to set clear timelines and deadlines, including for the RUU separating the Attorney General's and Prosecution General's roles and limiting the prime minister's term to two terms. Additionally, long-pending amendments to the Security (Special Measures) Act (SOSMA) and the 2012 Parliamentary Safe Assembly Act (PSAA) need to be accelerated.

According to Deo, the foundations for reform are already in place, as the RUU separating roles and the two-term limit for prime ministers have already been prepared. The minister's announcement on SOSMA amendment has been in Parliament since February last year, while PSAA amendment has been under discussion for several months. "All this must be steadfastly and expediently enforced without any further delays," he stated.

Deo also referenced the special parliamentary session held by the government in connection with the recent RCI report on the Tabung Haji, while suggesting a similar approach be taken for the reforming RUU. If needed, he would request extra hearings during the upcoming Dewan Rakyat session specifically to allow the relevant RUU to pass.

The DAP remains fully committed to ensuring this reform takes place without any further delays, warning that the relevant bill should be passed before the end of the year.
