In the world of politics, the importance of working together and overcoming trust issues is emphasized by analyst Syaza Shukri. Although political friends may not always fully trust each other, they can still collaborate when it benefits their respective parties, according to Syaza. She argues that the level of trust between political leaders is conditional and never absolute.

While there may be doubts about certain politicians working together, such as PAS President Hadi Awang and Umno ally Zahid Hamidi, this should not prevent them from cooperating if it is advantageous. Syaza stresses that the current trust gap between Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi is the lowest since the formation of the federal government in 2022.

Khairy Jamaluddin, a former Umno Youth chief, claims that the BN's decision to partner with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the recent PRN election in Negeri Sembilan has strained their relationship with Pakatan Harapan (PH). However, Anwar denies these allegations, maintaining that his relationship with Zahid remains strong despite some minor issues at the state level, which he considers routine.

Syaza acknowledges that the BN's decision to partner with PN has sparked controversy with PH, but she believes the party must prioritize its own interests over other considerations, including sharing power with PH in government management. She suggests that if they understand the election predictions, the BN should do what is necessary, even if it means disappointing Anwar.

Syaza also notes that Zahid's position within Umno is strengthening, as he continues to gain confidence in his leadership and eventually return to power, following the initial doubts from Umno members. Over time, Zahid's trust is gradually returning, and Umno now sees his resurgence. Syaza notes that trust between Anwar and Zahid remains intact, as the two leaders have known each other for a long time, even before becoming party leaders.

Anwar and Zahid first met during the 1970s when they were both active students at the University of Malaya. Anwar later became Deputy Prime Minister under Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the 1980s, while Zahid served as the head of Umno Youth.
