CSA urges Ghanaians to report cyber threats

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) is urging Ghanaians to report suspected cyber threats before they lead to financial or other losses. In a recent National Community Media Cybersecurity Capacity Building Programme, Alex Awere-Kyere, from the Critical Information Infrastructure Directorate of the CSA, highlighted that cybercrime now targets critical sectors such as banking, finance, mining, energy, water systems, and government institutions.

He emphasized that the growing sophistication of cybercrime demands a proactive approach from individuals and institutions. Mr. Awere-Kyere encouraged the public to seek assistance from the CSA immediately when encountering suspicious online activity, instead of waiting to become victims. Reports can be submitted through the CSA's 292 call centre, where cybersecurity professionals gather information and provide guidance.

The CSA has established a Joint Cybersecurity Committee, comprising key institutions like the Bank of Ghana, National Communications Authority, Ghana Armed Forces, and the Criminal Investigations Department, to ensure a coordinated national response to cybersecurity incidents. The authority also cautioned against making prank calls to the 292 hotline, as it consumes limited resources and could delay help for genuine victims.

The CSA remains committed to working with other national security agencies to protect Ghana's critical information infrastructure.
