BRS announces protest in Telangana over government's alleged decision to cancel two key schemes

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) announced a statewide protest on Monday in Telangana to oppose what it claims is the Congress government's alleged plan to terminate the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes. BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) urged party leaders, elected representatives, and cadres to join the protests and voice their opposition to any removal of the schemes, which he said have provided financial aid and dignity to countless impoverished families.

KTR accused the Congress government of using the High Court's verdict as a reason to discontinue Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak, stating that the schemes were more than just welfare programs, but were closely tied to the financial security and dignity of daughters from low-income families. KTR claimed that the schemes, introduced by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in 2014, provided financial help to 13 lakh families, amounting to approximately ₹13,000 crore.

He questioned the Congress government's failure to provide a counterargument during the High Court proceedings and accused them of not putting up a strong defense for a scheme that benefits poor families. KTR also accused the Congress of abandoning their election promise to provide a tola of gold along with Kalyana Lakshmi assistance, instead of fulfilling the promise, the BRS claims they are now attempting to discontinue the schemes.
