Bitcoin catches a bid after weekly loss, on track for best day in over a month

Bitcoin experienced a brief surge on Monday, climbing over 2% in value and positioning itself for its best single-day performance in over a month. This upward movement followed a dramatic decline of nearly 3% the previous week. The bearish run was attributed to a mix of Middle East concerns, regulatory challenges, and disclosures of additional sales by a major corporate investor, Strategy.

Bitcoin's price currently stands at $64,282.9, marking a 2.3% increase as of 18:25 ET (22:25 GMT). The cryptocurrency market is eagerly anticipating a White House meeting involving top industry leaders later in the week. This summit, taking place on Wednesday, will feature discussions with crypto CEOs, prediction market leaders, and representatives from traditional finance and artificial intelligence.

The meeting is not only a precursor to a later CFTC gathering on Thursday, but also aims to address the ongoing debate surrounding the Clarity Act. During the same week, spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) witnessed substantial outflows, totaling nearly $390 million, which marked the largest withdrawal since early July. This outflow came in tandem with Bitcoin's price drop of around 3%.

The recent rally in tech and artificial intelligence stocks, buoyed by strong earnings from chipmakers, left crypto markets in the rear. However, on Monday, Bitcoin benefited from the U.S. Treasury seeking input on stablecoin issuance, payment processes, and sales under the GENIUS Act. Bitcoin treasury company, Strategy, sold approximately $333.7 million worth of its shares during the week, as confirmed by a regulatory filing.

The company sold 3,458,866 shares between August 10 and August 16, and the proceeds were allocated towards dividends, repurchases, and boosting cash reserves. Notably, Strategy's Bitcoin holdings remained stable at 840,447 tokens, valued at around $53.4 billion at the current prices. The remaining crypto markets also showed an overall upward trend on Monday.

Ethereum rose by 1.6% to $1,905.52, while BNB, XRP, and Solana increased by 0.4%, 0.7%, and 1.8%, respectively. On the flip side, Cardano experienced a decline of 1%. Memecoins like Dogecoin gained 1.1%, and $TRUMP remained unchanged. The report was contributed by Vahid Karaahmetovic and Anuron Mitra.
