Asutifi North Assembly distributes 1,500 bags of fertilizer to 500 farmers

The Asutifi North District Assembly in Ghana's Ahafo Region has begun distributing 1,500 bags of free fertilizer to 500 farmers, aiming to bolster agricultural output in the area. The fertilizer, consisting of 1,000 bags of NPK and 500 bags of urea, is being handed out without cost to boost farming productivity. District Chief Executive Hafiz Dauda announced the initiative during a distribution event in Kenyasi, stating it demonstrates the government's dedication to enhancing farmers' earnings and bolstering the agricultural sector.

Dauda anticipates additional assistance from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, under Eric Opoku, to help farmers broaden their commercial farming operations, which would benefit both food production and the national economy by generating employment for the youth. He advised recipients to apply the fertilizer per guidelines from agricultural extension officers to maximize its benefits.

Godfred Ezena, the Ministry's representative for Asutifi North, promised to oversee the beneficiaries' usage of the fertilizer to ensure proper application. He cautioned farmers against selling the subsidized fertilizer, warning of penalties for those who violate this rule. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government for the support, emphasizing that the availability of the fertilizer will improve crop yields and alleviate the financial strain of farming.
