Arab League chief: Israel seeks to impose its will on the world

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy welcomed an agreement from eight Arab and Islamic nations condemning Israel's rejection of the Gaza peace roadmap. Fahmy emphasized that Israel's stance, as expressed by its prime minister, demonstrates a clear ambition to obstruct all mediation attempts and sustain the current situation in Gaza, which includes ongoing violence, the expansion of occupation, and the failure to address the dire humanitarian needs of over two million Palestinians in Gaza for the past three years.

He attributed Israel's actions to domestic motivations and noted the prime minister's disregard for international consensus, as outlined in the peace plan, UN Security Council Resolution 2803, and subsequent mediator agreements, which include limiting Hamas's weaponry, facilitating an Israeli withdrawal, establishing an international stabilization force, and transferring administrative control to the National Committee for Gaza Administration.

Fahmy highlighted Hamas's acceptance of these conditions while Israel has failed to comply, placing the entire burden on Israel. He asserted that the international community, particularly the United States, which has backed the agreement since October last year, holds a moral and political duty to apply pressure on the party blocking the agreement and failing to meet its obligations, to swiftly transition to the second phase of the peace plan.

Fahmy further argued that Israel aspires to enforce its will not just on Palestinians but on the global stage, proposing deals that only bind the other party while Israel refrains from any commitments—such as ceasing violence or withdrawing from the occupied territories in Gaza. He deemed such unilateral actions as untenable under any reasonable standard.

Fahmy urged all nations still supporting the two-state solution as the path to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to adopt a united and resolute stance against the extremist Israeli government, led by a prime minister who openly opposes the concept of a Palestinian state. He warned that Israel's defiance of international expectations cannot persist without facing repercussions.
