4 charged with murder after businessman’s body found in net

Four men have been charged with the murder of businessman Low Kai Xian, whose body was discovered wrapped in a net and floating in Sungai Tanjung Sembrong on August 3. The accused, including lorry driver Yogesvaran Subramaniam, 40, lorry attendants Lim Yong Ming, 26, and Achuthan Nagarajan, 32, as well as used-car dealer How Han Wei, 33, are alleged to have murdered Low between July 29 and August 3.

The charge carries a potential death penalty or a prison sentence of between 30 and 40 years, with at least 12 lashings, upon conviction. The four men appeared before magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno, who read out the charge but no plea was entered as murder cases are handled by the High Court. Their next court appearance is set for October 14, pending the results of the post-mortem and forensic investigations.

No bail was granted to the accused. Low's family reported him missing on July 29 after losing contact with him. Police found his body with his hands and legs bound by adhesive tape, and with injuries to his waist and arms.
