3,500 App-Based Taxis To Go Off Roads For Two Days From August 18 In Bhopal

Approximately 3,500 app-based taxis in Bhopal will participate in a two-day strike starting from August 18. The strike, organized by the Sanyukta Morcha comprising the Bhopal Taxi Drivers Association and the Taxi Union Welfare Committee, aims to protest against the financial crisis faced by taxi drivers. The drivers claim that arbitrary practices of aggregator companies, rising costs, and the administration's failure to address their demands have pushed them into a financial crisis.

Rajesh Kumar Nagle, general secretary of the Bhopal Taxi Drivers Association, stated that their main demand is for the government to decide the fare rates. Currently, the high fares make it difficult for drivers to cover expenses such as fuel, vehicle maintenance, insurance, loan payments, and family needs. The Morcha has warned that an indefinite strike could be launched if their demands are not met.

The organization emphasized that merely increasing the fare by 20 or 30% would not be a solution, as the issue lies in the payment structure imposed by aggregator companies.
