14 arrested for cultivating and distributing ‘wee’ at Daliga

Police in Ghana's Upper East region have arrested 14 individuals suspected of cultivating and distributing the narcotic drug "wee" in the town of Daliga, located in the Nabdam District. The arrests took place on Sunday, August 16, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation.

The suspects, whose ages range from 20 to 70, include Alex Nyaaba, Charles Kolog Dombil, Jenifer Ziimi, Ziimi Pandan, Tobire Naab, Yinteng James, Sandenab Peelim, Abane Zamgbeog, Borimi Nahou, Tobil Wandabil, Furimi Nabdok, Nahou Dogobila, Gurimi Teng, and Gurimi Kugeri. They were apprehended during a search that uncovered a significant amount of suspected narcotic drugs concealed in sacks.

According to a statement from the Upper East Regional Police Command, preliminary investigations suggest that the narcotic drug being cultivated alongside millet and maize was intended to conceal the farms and avoid detection. The police further claim that the suspects are believed to be major suppliers of narcotic drugs to various drug peddlers across the Upper East Region.

The operation is part of the regional police's efforts to disrupt the cultivation, distribution, and supply networks that facilitate the circulation of narcotic drugs in the area. The arrested individuals are currently in custody and will face court proceedings.
