13 Starehe Boys complete 1,100km charity bikethon from Busia to Mombasa

Thirteen young men from the Starehe Boys Centre have successfully concluded a 1,100-kilometre charity cycling event from Busia to Mombasa, raising funds for their school's education fund. The cyclists began their journey on 3rd August, pedaling through 19 counties before arriving in Mombasa on 13th August. The ride, known as the Dr. Geoffrey Griffin Memorial Charity Bikeathon, was named in honor of the school's founder, Dr. Geoffrey Griffin, and aimed to raise KSh 10 million for Starehe Boys Centre and Starehe Girls Centre.

The riders, who included team leader Leo Stanley and team captain Ian Hicho, faced challenging conditions such as hills, rain, dust, and strong coastal winds, but persevered through months of preparation and teamwork. Vivo Energy Kenya, along with St John Ambulance, supported the event with logistical assistance and medical support, respectively.

The completion of the challenge was lauded by both the riders and the organization supporting them, with a call for greater awareness and investment in cycling infrastructure and road safety.
