UTF vows to protect pension rights of all eligible employees

The United Teachers Federation (UTF) pledged on Sunday to safeguard the pension rights of all eligible employees following the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for those hired before 2003. Speaking at a victory meeting in Vijayawada, UTF leaders credited the federation's persistent advocacy for the government's decision.

They reminded that the government had instituted the Contributory Pension System (CPS) for appointments post-2003, a move UTF had vehemently opposed from the outset, urging the reinstatement of the OPS. Several employees appointed prior to 2003 were initially barred from the OPS due to administrative hurdles, but the UTF's relentless pressure compelled the government to address the issue.

UTF leaders affirmed that the federation would persist in its democratic campaign to secure teachers' and employees' rights and welfare, emphasizing that the OPS restoration remains the organization's top priority. They also demanded that the government resolve outstanding concerns such as promotions, transfers, service benefits, and other welfare provisions.

UTF State President N. Venkateswarlu and General Secretary K.S.S. Prasad, alongside State office-bearers, district leaders, and representatives from 26 districts, attended the meeting. The UTF warned of intensified protests if the pending employee grievances remained unaddressed, urging the government to honor its commitments and provide a secure retirement with social security to employees.
