Ukraine Strikes Russian Rocket Fuel Plant in Rostov Region

On August 16, Ukrainian forces targeted a military-industrial complex in Russia's Rostov region, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported. The Kombinat Kamensky facility, situated in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, manufactures solid rocket fuel for Russian multiple launch rocket systems and other munitions used by Russian forces. A fire was reported at the site, with the full extent of the damage yet to be determined.

Earlier in the week, Ukraine had halted operations at the Zapsibneftekhim facility in Tobolsk, Tyumen region, following an attack on August 10 that damaged its Central Gas Fractionation Unit No. 1. The facility is a significant petrochemical complex, producing materials vital to Russia's defense industry.

Additionally, on August 11, Ukraine struck an oil refinery in Orsk, Orenburg region, causing damage to several units. The refinery, responsible for producing fuel for Russian military vehicles, was hit with a hydrocracking unit, three primary refining units, and a secondary distillation unit.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on August 15 that Ukrainian forces had launched long-range strikes against strategic targets deep within Russia. These included the Progress Space Rocket Centre in the Samara region, approximately 900 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The attack resulted in a direct hit and fire at the facility, which manufactures Soyuz launch vehicles and Earth observation satellites for military reconnaissance and communication purposes.

Further strikes were reported on the Savasleyka airfield in the Nizhny Novgorod region and an oil facility in Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region. The latter facility, located over 800 kilometers from the Russian border, houses MiG-31K interceptor fighters capable of carrying advanced missiles.
