While I am willing to assist where possible, I often wonder about the children whose parents have no one to turn to for help.
What about the young graduate from a struggling family in a rural community, whose parents have sacrificed everything to educate them? These young people encounter numerous hurdles when they need official documents like NYSC Call-Up Letters, professional registrations, or internship placements. They often have to travel repeatedly to major cities, demonstrating a troubling need for improvement in the system.
The NYSC, professional regulatory bodies, universities, and other institutions should streamline their processes with the help of Information and Communications Technology. There should be no need for graduates to chase institutions for information that is already available electronically. The current situation disproportionately affects those without connections or financial resources, exacerbating existing inequalities.
As a society, we have a responsibility to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy and provide young Nigerians with a fair chance to grow and contribute to their country. Nigeria must do better in supporting its future by ensuring young people can complete mandatory professional registrations, internships, and national service without unnecessary hardship.
