Transporters Stand Firm on Clear Demands to End Strike

The nationwide strike by goods transporters continues on its ninth day, with federal and provincial government officials preparing for critical talks in Karachi today, August 16. Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar will join the discussions, alongside Sindh Governor, the Sindh Transport Minister, and other government representatives.

Muhammad Owais Chaudhry, an advocate representing the transporters, stated that the nation's goods transport system remains paralyzed. He emphasized that transporters are not seeking confrontation with the government and are looking for a practical, lasting resolution to their demands. Chaudhry stressed that the strike will not be lifted solely based on promises or assurances, and concrete decisions and implementation of agreed-upon measures are required before any end to the protest.

He urged transporters across the country to remain peaceful, united, and to avoid unverified information or rumors. Chaudhry expressed optimism that Sunday's negotiations would yield positive results and progress towards resolving the dispute, but reiterated that the nationwide, peaceful strike will persist until the transporters' demands are formally accepted and practical steps are taken to implement them.
