Teen girl arrested after pouring boiling water on her mother

A teenage girl, identified as A, has been arrested after allegedly pouring boiling water over her mother, B, who tried to stop her from running away from home, according to the Namyangju Nambu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province. The arrest and questioning of A took place on August 15. Police allege that the incident occurred around 12:50 a.m. when A, at her home in Namyangju, allegedly poured boiling water from an electric kettle over her mother, B. The argument between the two began when A expressed a desire to leave home.

When B attempted to intervene and remove her cellphone, A allegedly poured the boiling water on her. Neighbors reported the incident, leading to A's arrest at the scene. Although A is a minor, she does not fall under the category of a juvenile below the age of criminal responsibility, as children aged 10 to under 14 are classified as "juvenile offenders" in Korean law.

They may be subject to protective measures but cannot face criminal punishment. B sustained second-degree burns and was hospitalized for treatment.
