Switzerland has promised to fund the restoration of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

Switzerland has committed to financing the restoration of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with 600,000 Swiss francs, equivalent to approximately $730,000, according to Jacques Gerber, the Swiss Federal Council representative for Ukraine. The announcement was made on August 16. Ukrainian Acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed gratitude for the support, noting that it is particularly significant as the Lavra commemorates its 975th anniversary.

Sybiha reminded the public that just two months before this milestone, Russia deliberately targeted the centuries-old holy site. He praised Gerber for traveling to Kyiv and participating in a ceremony marking the Lavra's anniversary. On June 15, Russia initiated a significant assault on Kyiv, employing drones and missiles, including ballistic ones.

One of these drones targeted the Dormition Cathedral at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, resulting in a fire and substantial damage. Subsequently, Ukraine's Security Service verified that the Lavra had been struck by a Geran-2 drone. Despite the Russian attack, UNESCO acknowledged the incident but refrained from singling out Russia. On June 19, the Lavra partially reopened to visitors following the attack.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Kyiv on July 15 to participate in celebrations commemorating Ukrainian Statehood Day and also visited the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. On July 22, American blogger Laura Loomer, an ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, toured the Lavra. She shared her experience on X, stating, "Putin drone-striked Jesus Christ."
