SNAPSHOT | Esscom: No Sulu invasion; Fahmi says govt 'not in the mood to control media'

AYER KEROH: PKR party leader Fahmi Fadzil, who is also Communications Minister, has stated that the party will improve its communication strategy but will not attempt to control the media. This was revealed during his winding-up speech at the PKR National Congress in Melaka. Fahmi acknowledged the concerns raised during the congress and assured that the party would make necessary adjustments to enhance the dissemination of information to the public.

Instead of controlling the media, Fahmi proposed engaging with media organizations in a proper and respectful manner whenever inaccurate information surfaced. He also highlighted the shift from past practices where media members were instructed, to the current approach where such interventions are not conducted. Fahmi noted that the media themselves had recognized this change.

When asked about the party's plans, Fahmi emphasized the focus on issues that directly impact households, contrasting macroeconomic indicators like GDP growth and employment with microeconomic concerns such as wages, living costs, and fuel prices. He explained that while headline indicators represented the broader economic landscape, voters were primarily concerned with their immediate daily challenges.

Fahmi also mentioned the desire of PKR division chiefs to assume a more active role as the party’s eyes and ears on the ground, providing a direct channel for public concerns to reach the leadership.
