Serial Arsonist Fears as Fifth Fire Erupts Near Albatera in Three Months

Suspicion mounts that a serial arsonist is active near Albatera after a fifth suspected fire erupted in the area within a three-month period. The latest blaze ignited near the A-7 motorway and local homes on Sunday afternoon, rapidly spreading through palm trees and reeds before being contained by emergency services. The pattern of attacks in the same location has alarmed residents, raising suspicions of the same individual behind each fire.

Despite this pattern, authorities have found no clear evidence identifying the perpetrator, particularly concerning as similar incidents occurred in the same area between late 2023 and March 2024, both of which remain unsolved. The most recent fire began around 3.30pm, prompting a major emergency response involving firefighters from multiple stations, specialist forest crews, and two helicopters that joined the operation to prevent the flames from reaching homes, disrupting traffic, or spreading further into vegetation.

While preventative measures, such as clearing combustible materials from properties, have been taken by residents and landowners, the unidentified arsonist continues to pose a serious threat to the community's safety.
