Sammi Awuku denies reports of EOCO arrest

Akuapem North Member of Parliament Sammi Awuku has categorically denied claims that he was taken into custody by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Saturday, August 15. In a video posted on social media on Sunday, August 16, Awuku was seen in Kumasi alongside NDC supporter Appiah Stadium. During the video, Awuku questioned how he could have been arrested on Saturday when he was actively participating in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) regional elections in the Eastern Region.

"The reports that I was arrested on Saturday are completely false. I was in the Eastern Region yesterday for the NPP regional elections, and today, I am here in Kumasi," he stated. Initial reports suggested that Awuku, a former Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), was detained by EOCO in connection with corruption allegations and financial irregularities during his tenure at the NLA.

However, Awuku's presence in Kumasi on Sunday and his denial have called into question the veracity of the arrest reports. The Akuapem North MP firmly maintained that the reports were untrue and leveraged his appearance in Kumasi to challenge the claims of his alleged arrest by EOCO.
