SA ready to host 46th SADC Summit

South Africa has agreed to host the 46th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit. Regional leaders convened in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal province, to address key concerns, including integration, infrastructure, and peace and security. The Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) has been enhanced with heightened security measures to ensure a safe gathering.

As the world confronts issues like conflicts and geopolitical tensions, the UJ Director of the Centre for Africa-China Studies, Professor David Monyae, emphasized that the region must uphold its founding principles. Professor Monyae highlighted the presence of hotspots and emerging threats, particularly concerning cybersecurity with the onset of the 4th industrialization.

Monyae stressed the importance of implementation, noting that the region must rise to meet these challenges effectively.

The Deputy National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, clarified that authorities are aware of the planned marches and have a constitutional framework to guide their actions. The police's role is to protect everyone, including march organizers. Lesotho's Foreign Affairs Minister, Limpho Tau, expressed the summit's significance for discussing migration.

Tau appreciated the opportunity for South Africa to share its perspective on migration, emphasizing a collective responsibility among the region. The SADC troika, tasked with peace and security, convened to focus on the bloc's security situation.
