Russian Strikes on Kryvyi Rih and Kyiv Leave 1 Dead, 16 Injured

Russian forces unleashed a two-pronged assault on Sunday, Aug. 16, targeting the industrial city of Kryvyi Rih in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region. The attacks, employing ballistic missiles and drones, struck industrial facilities and resulted in casualties. Ukrainian officials reported that the strikes claimed two lives and left 13 injured.

Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Head Oleksandr Hanzha confirmed that a 48-year-old man was hospitalized in a critical condition, while 10 others sustained moderate injuries. Kryvyi Rih Defense Council Chief Oleksandr Vilkul disclosed that both ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles were utilized in the assault.

The strikes inflicted damage on two industrial enterprises, igniting fires which prompted emergency rescue operations. Concurrently, another attack occurred within the Dnipropetrovsk region, leaving a 55-year-old man injured in the Nikopol district. This strike also caused damage to infrastructure, an enterprise, and residential buildings, triggering multiple fires.

On the preceding night, Russian forces launched a strike on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, with ballistic missiles. The attack ignited fires and structural damage in the Obolonskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, leading to injuries in two people. In the Obolonskyi district, a significant fire erupted at a market, while debris ignited parked vehicles.

Another location sustained minor structural damage, and a non-residential building was directly hit. In the Holosiivskyi district, a fire in a non-residential development zone was contained, resulting in three injuries. These recent assaults follow a series of attacks on the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions the previous day, including strikes on Pavlohrad, Zaporizhzhia, and Marhanets.
