RM1.49mil cigarette contraband seized in three raids

Kuala Lumpur police have dismantled a cigarette smuggling operation, seizing contraband worth RM1.49 million in three raids across the city and Selangor. Under Operation Taring Alpha 1, two men aged 20 and 22 were detained for allegedly acting as cigarette delivery agents. The operation, conducted by the Wildlife Crime Bureau/ Special Investigation Intelligence (WCB/PSK) in Taman Seri Sentosa, Kuala Lumpur; Semenyih and Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya, resulted in the arrest of the younger suspects and the seizure of untaxed cigarettes, cash, vehicles, and mobile phones.

The total value of the seized items was RM1,492,223. Investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the network, including those who facilitated the collection and delivery of cigarette supplies via online communication apps. The two suspects face up to five years in jail and a fine of up to RM1 million for possession of untaxed cigarettes and liquor.
