However, simply having familiarity with hockey does not guarantee the ability to manage an Original Six franchise, which requires expertise in player evaluation, scouting, salary cap management, contract negotiations, and repairing relationships with key players. The Free Press report suggests that Detroit may consider splitting responsibilities between Greenberg and an experienced hockey operator.

The most troubling aspect, according to anonymous sources, is the chaotic environment inside Little Caesars Arena, with employees describing the situation as "chaotic at LCA" and lacking direction. This raises concerns about the lack of clear leadership within the organization. If these allegations are true, it casts doubt on the club's ability to make effective decisions during this critical transition period.

The report also highlights questions about Chris Ilitch's handling of major personnel opportunities during Yzerman's tenure. According to a source, Ilitch's hesitation may have contributed to Detroit missing out on Steven Stamkos during the 2024 offseason.
