Raut defends Rahul over his remarks against Amit Shah

Sanjay Raut, a leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT) party, defended Rahul Gandhi's comments against Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 16, 2026. Raut invoked the title of the popular Bollywood movie "3 Idiots" to argue that Gandhi's remarks could not be considered unparliamentary. The Lok Sabha secretariat has requested a response from Gandhi regarding two separate complaints of breach of privilege filed by BJP MPs Anurag Thakur and Sanjay Jaiswal.

These complaints were filed for Gandhi's remarks against Shah during a debate on the anti-paper leak bill. Raut stated that "idiot" is not an unparliamentary word, as calling someone silly does not violate parliamentary decorum. He likened the situation to the "3 Idiots" movie, which received a national award, and argued that if "idiot" is deemed unparliamentary, the Censor Board should be abolished.

Raut also accused the Union Home Minister of avoiding Parliament and not answering questions. He claimed that "all idiots" are being brought together under the current government. Raut claimed that Ramdev, a yoga guru, seems to have anticipated the changing political landscape in the country and is exercising caution in case of a government change.
