QFSW strengthens international cooperation on disability rights

The Qatar Foundation for Social Work (QFSW) has bolstered international cooperation on disability rights by participating in the 35th session of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Geneva. This involvement is part of QFSW's initiative to strengthen civil society participation in global mechanisms related to disability rights, leveraging its consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

At the session, QFSW's CEO, Rashid Mohammed Al-Naimi, emphasized the significance of civil society's presence in international forums dedicated to disability rights. This presence not only facilitates communication and knowledge exchange with key international bodies but also opens avenues for forming partnerships and benefiting from specialized expertise.

Following the session, Al-Naimi met with Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva. During this meeting, they reviewed QFSW's involvement in the Human Rights Council's activities, the organization of side events in collaboration with the Permanent Mission, and its engagement in topics and draft resolution projects pertinent to its areas of focus.

The QFSW delegation engaged with Dr. Nawaf Kabbara, the President of the International Disability Alliance and the President of the Arab Organization of Persons with Disabilities. Discussions centered on potential collaborations to bolster civil society's role in disability advocacy, enhance advocacy capacities, and advance the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The focus was also on expanding cooperation opportunities, sharing expertise, and exchanging best practices within the disability rights field.
