PKR’s 27‑year struggle isn’t about power, Zaliha says it’s about changing how Malaysia is run

Malaysia's Reformasi struggle, spearheaded by the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) over the past 27 years, is not merely about gaining political power, according to PKR vice president Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. She emphasized that the party's primary objective is to transform the way the country is governed. Zaliha made this assertion while delivering her concluding remarks at the PKR 2026 National Congress held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Melaka.

Zaliha highlighted that after PKR's entry into the government, the party now bears a significant responsibility to translate the reform agenda into tangible improvements through strengthening institutions and governance, combating corruption and abuse of power, and ensuring that justice reaches all levels of society. She also urged PKR members to demonstrate courage in pointing out and rectifying their own weaknesses.

The party leader pointed out that reforms do not necessitate sweeping changes overnight; instead, they require careful prioritization, immediate actions, and long-term strategies to ensure lasting impact. Drawing a parallel to the story of Khalifah Umar Abdul Aziz, Zaliha stressed that changes should be implemented gradually without compromising the overall goals of the struggle.

Furthermore, Zaliha stressed the importance of streamlining party communication to effectively communicate the government's achievements to the people. She argued that merely implementing policies or programs does not guarantee that the populace understands or appreciates them. According to Zaliha, comprehensible party communication is crucial to avoid complaints about the people's lack of understanding.

She urged the party to master the narrative on social media and prevent opposition dominance in public discourse, as winning over public sentiment is equally important to securing political victory.
