Osun poll’s outcome shows Tinubu will lose to Makinde in 2027 – APM

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has declared that the Osun State governorship election results could indicate President Bola Tinubu's potential defeat in the 2027 presidential election. The opposition party claims that the victory of their candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, demonstrates that the electorate could overturn an incumbent political establishment when dissatisfied with its performance.

APM's National Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Abubakar, stated that the Osun result exposed a declining support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a growing demand for change at the federal level. Abubakar argued that the reaction of voters to APC leaders during the election signified growing public dissatisfaction with the ruling party, particularly with President Tinubu and other APC governors, who allegedly faced booing as they left Osun State.

The party further maintained that if Nigerians continue to experience economic hardship, insecurity, and poor governance under the Tinubu-led government, they would not reward the administration with another term in 2027. In addition, the APM cited instances where APC members and candidates reportedly chanted "APM" at party gatherings, suggesting growing disaffection within the party.

The party also noted that Nigerians were increasingly associating Makinde with competent, transparent, and people-oriented leadership. Makinde, who has governed Oyo State since 2019, will run on the APM's presidential ticket in 2027. The APM claimed that the governor has demonstrated the capacity to manage a larger political and economic constituency, citing Oyo State's economic growth under his administration.

The statement, however, did not provide specific evidence to support the claim that the Tinubu administration is the worst in Nigeria's history. The APM's position comes as political parties and candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the Tinubu administration's performance expected to be a dominant topic in the emerging political contest.
